Keep Clare clean 2009

Ballynacally has been part of the Community Games organization since its formation in 1971 and over the past three decades generations of athletes have made their mark in a variety of disciplines at Local, County and National Level. County medals were won by us in 1971 and we continued to participate in the games enjoying great success at Local and County level, our County winners representing us in Mosney at the National Finals each year .

In 1987 Helen Clancy captured our first ever National Award coming back from Mosney with a bronze medal for Art. Following her success, many National awards came our way in Art, Athletics, Set-dancing and Choir. In 1989 we went a step further, having won the County Finals in a very keen oompetition our Choir won the National Title in Mosney and returned to a triumphant reception in Ballynacally. The Choir was trained by Johnny McCarthy.

Further County and National Awards were won in the Nineties the highlights being, The Set-dancers winning, Silver National medakin `96 and National Certificates in '97. Michelle Haugh won a Silver National Medal in Athletics in '96 and National Medals in Athletics were won by James and Anthony Kelly and Pauline Sheehan in '97.

We were tops in the County Art Finals again in '98 with five children representing us in Mosney and our Set won National certificates the same year. Elaine Gavin brought National honors to us in 2000 and 2001 winning the Silver medals in Art on both occasions. In 2000 National Bronze medals were won by our set-dancers. We enjoyed lots of success at Local and County Levels in 2002. In 2003 the National title was won by our Set-dancers and this year they repeated their performance taking the Joe Thompson Perpetual Trophy back to our Area for the second year in a row.

Two All-Irelands a great achievement for a small area. In 2003 and 2004 a number of our children participated in the Sports Introduction Programme in Mosney. Four children represented us at the Comhairle na n-6g seiminar in Ennis in 2003 and from there Cathal Nagle was selected to represent us in Dail na n-6g in Croke Park.

We were further honored in 2004 when Cathal was invited to represent us at Aras an Uachtarain for the May-day E.U Accession Ceremony.

With the Past three years we've won the Shannon Development trophy for the best presented Area at the County Athletic Finals and this year we won the Mascot award as well. We are one of the few areas in Clare in 2004 who will be represented at all three weekends of the National Finals our Set-dancers having represented us in May.

In August 2004 we were represented on the second weekend of the finals by three young artists and on the third and final weekend an under 10 athlete will represented us. We feel proud of the fact that our area flag was held high at all three weekends of these finals.

Community Games in Ballynacally is an organization of which we can be proud.,over 400 children participate in the different events each year. Its an organization that has grown from strength to strength since 1971 due to the tremendous spirit in our area where Pride of Place is evident
